Best Packaging for Quality Design

It’s been a very gratifying autumn at Icma. After receiving the prestigious Women Value Company-Intesa Sanpaolo Award from the Bellisario Foundation, we’re proud to announce that our company has obtained an important new recognition. “Second Life”, the circular economy project originating from a collaboration between Icma, L’Oréal Italy, and Maggioni Type, has won the Best Packaging Award for Quality Design, sponsored by the Italian Institute of Packaging.

Thanks to “Second Life”, L’Oréal Italy transforms its cellulosic waste into creative paper for the promotional packaging projects of brands such as Vichy, Biotherm, Lancôme, and Kiehl’s. This innovative project is the result of a close collaboration between the partners. A new challenge overcome.

What makes this project unique in terms of sustainability is an almost total correspondence between the waste and the recycled paper manufactured and an integrated production process resulting in lower consumption of water and energy, and reduced CO2 emissions, characterized by the absence of optical bleachings and deinkers; the chain of production is devised entirely in Italy, from the raw material (waste) to presentation packaging.

“Second life” is the first application of the “Rinascimento” service designed by Icma, which takes care of all the phases, from the collection of the company’s scraps to the creation of a recycled paper, destined to be a quality product in terms of its aesthetic characteristics and ecological profile: an ideal product for presentation packaging. Icma can design the project based on the client’s supply chain, without changing its waste disposal methods.
