Icma 2030-Lab

Icma 2030-Lab is an innovation laboratory - a research program aimed at implementing good, sustainable practices for companies, products, and processes.

To Icma, sustainability is not just about respecting and protecting the planet; it’s also about contributing to its social and ethical development. With the Icma 2030-Lab, the company intends to make its contribution towards innovation in these directions, especially at a time when manufacturing companies are required to adhere to specific responsibilities for economic recovery.

The name “Icma 2030-Lab” alludes to the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an action plan for people, the planet, and prosperity, signed in September 2015 by the governments of the 193 UN member states. The 17 goals set out include requests to ensure good health and well-being for all people of all ages; to achieve gender equality and improve the living conditions of women; to promote lasting, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive occupation, and decent work for all; to promote sustainable and inclusive industrialization and favour innovation; to ensure sustainable consumption and production models; to protect, reinstate, and promote the sustainable use of Earth's ecosystems and sustainable forest management; to fight desertification, to stop and reverse the degradation of land, and to stop the loss of biodiversity.

The first results of the Icma 2030-Lab project, obtained through a long process of research into materials, are the new “100% R Bases” papers, which are 100% recycled, certified with the FSC Recycled Credit, and produced in an integrated cycle without the use of optical bleachings. They represent a different approach to sustainability from those currently offered in the sector of creative paper for luxury packaging and will be available as of May 2020. The new papers are the most suitable materials on which to begin a new season of research and creativity into the surface processing of paper and cardboard and will provide the market with an aesthetically and ecologically unique collection.

The Icma 2030-Lab, an innovation incubator, builds on the “Rinascimento" experience, a circular economy project conceived by Icma, and offered to luxury companies with a sensitivity towards the environmental issues of packaging. With “Rinascimento”, Icma turns the cellulosic waste (packaging, catalogs, displays…) of client companies into recycled creative paper for their packaging projects, resulting in a solid and measurable impact in terms of eco-sustainability.
